I am very proud of the research I completed before I looked for my breeding dogs. They all come from very healthy lines and have passed their genetic health tests with flying colors. I have been raising each of my dogs from the age of eight weeks and they are family to me. Each is special and has their own personality. And yes, all of them are incredibly sweet and smart. They live here with me on my secluded ten-acre ranch along with my horses and barn cats.
Further, there is always a possibility that a puppy brought into this world carries a genetic disorder. It can happen to the very best and most expensive bred dogs from the top lines. Even with all the tests that have been done, it may not be detected. By entering into this contract, you acknowledge this statement, and you know the risks.
Please read each item carefully, initial each item, and provide a full signature at the end.
- _______ If by horrible chance your puppy becomes sick and dies within the first three years of life and the cause was not environmental, I will give you another puppy of the same gender. This guarantee will not cover any death from environmental hazards such as poison, choking, trauma, or accidents, lack of deworming and/or vaccines and vet care. I have the right to ask for proof before this guarantee can be fulfilled. If you refuse to provide proof from the veterinarian, the guarantee will be void.
- _________ It is highly recommended that you do not spay or neuter your puppy before the age of two years. There are many valid studies that show how altering a dog too early can cause a very significant increase in hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as many cancers.
- ___________ If I believe a puppy in question is not from my ranch then I have the right to ask for a DNA test from the AKC to be ran to prove this puppy is from my stock. The cost of the test shall be paid by you.
- ___________ You are placing a deposit of $500 for a “Valerie’s Retriever Ranch puppy from litter out of sire _________________ and dam _________________. You understand that the deposit is non-refundable and that the total cost for your puppy is ________________. If by chance this litter does not produce the number of pups to satisfy your gender request, your deposit will be held and dedicated to a future litter within one year from date of deposit. There is no guarantee, but I shall do my best to place your deposit in an advantageous position for puppy choice. You also have the choice of placing your deposit on a much more future letter to have a better position for puppy choice. With the chance that you may wish to postpone taking a pup home and you have already put a deposit on a current litter, you can postpone once in that years’ time.
- _______ Valerie’s Retriever Ranch guarantees that all puppies leave to go their new homes with proper vaccines and de-worming. Vaccines are given at six weeks. Buyer agrees to keep up with the proper vaccines, vet exams, and de-worming after they take possession of their puppy. Valerie’s Retriever Ranch agrees to give puppies remaining on the property their appropriate vaccines and de-worming.
- Buyer agrees not to attempt to breed the pup/dog at any time in the dog’s lifetime.
- ________ Buyer agrees to never relinquish puppy to a shelter or a rescue. The buyer also agrees to return puppy or adult dog back to Valerie’s Retriever Ranch at any time in the dog’s life and shall not attempt to give away or sell the puppy/dog at any time in the dog’s life.
- __________ Valerie’s Retriever Ranch is not responsible for any vet bills after the puppy leaves the breeder’s property.
- __________ Buyer understands that AKC registration is limited and that Valerie Russo Cook, M.S. maintains authorization to allow (or not to allow) full registration with an added fee to do so.
- _________ Buyer agrees to speak to breeder first with any issues or difficulties with their pup.
- ________ Buyer understands that the deposit for a puppy is good for two years if the dam does not produce the number of puppies to fulfill the request. However, if the buyer simply wishes to postpone bring a puppy into their home, the deposit is good for one year and if the price of the puppy has increased, the buyer shall pay the future price.
- _______ Buyer recognizes that order of puppy choice is a delicate matter. After the pups have been vaccinated there will be appointments made for each buyer (in order of date of deposit) to visit the ranch to choose their puppy. If the appointment cannot be made in a timely fashion, the breeder reserves the right to assist the buyer in the choosing process via pictures, video, zoom, or skype. Appointments will begin a few days after vaccinations at six weeks.
- _______ Buyer acknowledges that illnesses such as parvo, kennel cough, and other serious infections are a very serious concern to any breeding facility. At the breeder’s discretion, the buyer may be asked questions to verify whether there is a chance that these illnesses may be transmitted to the breeder’s property. The buyer also acknowledges that he or she may be asked to wear surgical booties and wipe hands with sanitizer before entering the facility.
- ___________ If buyer wishes to leave their chosen pup here with me after the eight week mark, buyer agrees to provide me with a 37 pound bag of Purina Pro Plan Puppy Lamb and Rice for every five days that the pups stays beyond the eight weeks.
